Installing the server
One PC in the shop holds the data and serves every till. Install it first.
- Who can do this
- Owner
Major runs as a server on one PC in the shop — it keeps the database and serves the tills — and a till app on each PC where you sell. There are three installers:
| Installer | Use it on |
|---|---|
Major.Setup.exe |
A shop with one PC — the server and the till together. |
Major.Server.Setup.exe |
The PC that holds the data, when there are several tills. |
Major.Terminal.Setup.exe |
Every other till PC. See Installing a till. |
Install the server
- Run
Major.Server.Setup.exeas an administrator on the PC that stays on all day. - Port — the network port the tills connect to. Keep 5199 unless something else uses it; the installer tells you if the port is taken.
- Finish. The installer starts the Major POS Server service (it starts with Windows, nobody needs to sign in), opens
the port in the Windows firewall for your local network only, and creates the data folders under
C:\ProgramData\Major— the database, the daily backups and the logs. - The last page shows the Owner setup code — eight letters and digits. Write it down: you need it only if you create the owner account from another PC.
With Major.Setup.exe (one PC), the port is chosen for you and the till app is installed too: open Major POS from the
desktop.
Next: Create the owner account.
